Our First Year
On June 12th & 13th, 2025, the Faculty of Science and Technology Department of the University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, opened their doors to the Inaugural Early Years STEM Fair.
This early childhood event brought together 8 participating schools, and over 500 students in attendance between the ages of 3–7, along with their educators for two days of discovery, creativity, and learning through STEM play.
Learning Through PLAY
At the Early Years STEM Fair, traditional and original stories and rhymes became hands-on learning experiences. At the Rocket Car Story Station children experimented with motion and speed, the Magic Ink Station revealed surprising chemical reactions.

Humpty Dumpty Station, children measured how far Humpty dropped and rolled before he “cracked,” exploring early concepts of distance and estimation.
The Three Little Pigs Station challenged young engineers to build strong and stable houses using different materials, while the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Station had little astronomers discovering constellations and patterns in the night sky.
Event Feedback
Teachers were enthusiastic about the impact of the Early Years STEM Fair, noting that it offered abundant opportunities for hands-on learning and imaginative play.
Many observed that students were actively engaged, enjoying the activities while gaining new information and facts across science, math, technology and engineering.
The fair encouraged children to use their own reasoning skills to solve problems, providing a wider spectrum of learning experiences beyond conventional classroom teaching.

Along with this positive feedback, teachers also offered thoughtful suggestions to help the event grow.
Several highlighted the benefit of having a larger, more open space in the future to allow for smoother movement, more interaction, and the need for additional exhibits.....they wanted more!!!!
These insights have been woven into the planning of the 2026 fair, ensuring the event continues to build on its playful, hands-on spirit while expanding opportunities for exploration and discovery.
Looking ahead to 2026, plans are already underway for the next Early Years STEM Fair, promising even more interaction and engaging experiences for young learners.
With exciting new stations, creative activities, and continued collaboration with STEM professionals, the fair aims to deepen children’s understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math through play. Public and Private nursery and primary schools are invited to join in, for yet another memorable adventure in hands-on learning.
Building on the success of this year’s event, the 2026 fair will continue to inspire curiosity, spark creativity, and make STEM learning fun and accessible for all early learners.
